With great, long-lasting relationships to nurseries throughout Illinois and the Midwest, our design team at King’s Landscaping Co. has the ability to incorporate a large collection of specimen varieties ranging from common to lesser used shrubs and trees. All material is grown in accordance to all state nursery standards and carries a 1-year warranty from the date of installation.

• Seed / SOD: Though sodding is our most common form of turf establishment, we also prepare and apply seed and erosion blanket in large scale applications where we can achieve substantial cost savings to our clients. In most seeding situations, 60-70% germination coverage is our goal. In all seeding procedures, additional over-seeding will be necessary the following optimal growing season to provide full germination of turf.

• Annuals / Bulbs: Annuals, though a seasonal expenditure, will be the essential element to your landscape that provides that continual repetition of color throughout the growing season. Installation of spring bulbs is a terrific way to brighten up your landscape after the seemingly long, drab days of winter. Bulbs will provide the color bridge to the annual season that begins in May. Though bulbs will come back the following year, their blooms do diminish with each passing year and will eventually require removal and replacing. The following is a list of annuals / bulbs and their optimal planting times:

March – April: Spring Annuals (i.e. Pansies, Pushed Tulips, etc…)

May – June: Summer Annuals (i.e. Begonias, Impatients, Geraniums, etc…)

September – October: Fall Annuals (i.e. Mums, Kales, Pansies, etc…)

October – November: Spring Bulbs & Seasonal pot arrangement.

• Perennials:
Perennials, by definition, are plants that live for more than one year. Although they vary, they typically grow and bloom in late spring/early summer and die back each autumn. (i.e. Sedum, Coneflower, Hosta, Coralbells, Fountain Grass etc…)

• Groundcover: Used to provide uniformity and visual balance to your overall landscape while also providing green coverage in areas unsuited for grass. Groundcover is perfect for planting beds and areas that do not receive much water. (i.e. Pachysandra, Vinca, Purple Leaf Winter Creeper, etc…)

• Shrubs: Both deciduous and evergreen shrubs help to define spaces, provide focal points and serve as backgrounds for other plantings. If used in their proper place, they provide the crucial layering medium your landscape could not be without. A professional design will possess all this and bring unique, individual characteristics into the design.

• Trees:
Whether being multi or single stem, they will provide that specific focal point to your landscape. It could be that tree at the corner of the house to soften the houses strong vertical element or the tree that provides much needed shade for the patio. Trees and shrubs have the potential to be the greatest assets in your landscape or they could be the greatest liability, if you do not choose the correct one for that specific location.
